Planning To Purchase A Residential Well Pump? 3 Types To Choose From

If you do not have access to water from your municipal water system, you can install a residential well pump. This will provide you and your family with a constant water supply that you need to bathe, drink, wash dishes, etc. If your property has a well, you need a well pump to provide you with water. When it comes to well pumps there are different types to choose from. Below are three of these types to help you make the right choice.

Types of Residential Well Pumps

Three different types of residential well pumps include:

Submersible Well Pump

A submersible pump is located below the ground and is always submerged in a water reservoir. These pumps work using water pressure to push the water to the surface into a pressure tank. The pressure tank connects to your home's plumbing system. This type of pump is best if your well is far from your home as it uses powerful water pressure to move water. This type of pump also works best if you have a deep well since gravity in the water holds the pump in place.

Submersible pumps last many years, which can save you money. This is because the pump is always submerged in water so the engine stays cool so it will not burn out. The well pump is made to be watertight so water cannot get through it and reach the motor.

Jet Well Pump

A jet well pump does not submerse in water but instead draws water from the well using a suction pipe. The water is suctioned through the pipe into the water storage tank. One benefit of a jet well pump is it is not installed inside a well, so it is easier to maintain and easier to repair if there are problems.

There are different types of jet well pumps available. One is a single-drop jet pump. This type is used if you have a shallow well. There are also double drop well pumps which are more powerful when compared to a single drop pump. This type can also work well if you have a deep well as it uses a powerful jet injector to draw the water.

Centrifugal Well Pump

Another type of well pump available is known as a centrifugal well pump. This pump features impellers to draw the water from the well into the storage tank and then into your home. As the impellers turn, they create suction to draw the water. The water flows through the impeller which then forces the water to the storage tank. This type of well pump is smaller than other types so it cannot be used with a deep well.

Centrifugal well pumps work well if the well is close to your home, and you live alone or have a small family. Because the pump is smaller and not as powerful it may not provide you with enough water if you have high water usage in your home. This pump is less expensive when compared to the other types, however.
